   The positive effects of gaming

Important research has already been conducted for decades on the negative effects of gaming, including addiction, depression, and aggression, and it is certainly not suggested that this should be ignored. However, to understand the impact of video games on children’s and adolescents development, a more balanced perspective is needed. Therefore in this essay the positive effects of gaming, including helping dyslexics, boosting reaction time and developing in studies, will be examined.
Firstly, video games helps Dyslexia. Dyslexia is a widely used name for conditions that involve trouble with reading, writing, memory retainment, and general brain functionality. Dyslexia is commonly treated through long hours with reading writing or speech therapy and these lessons are not cheap either, usually costing parents thousands of dollars a year but recent studies show that there may be a better, cheaper and more enjoyable way of treating it. In a test performed by Oxford University dyslexic children who recently played an action game had a quicker response time to audio, visual stimulation reading rate and were more attentive in class. The best video games for helping dyslexia are active games such as Wii sports (sports games for Wii video game console) or games like Scrabble and pretty much any action game that requires quick thinking.
The secondary point is Reaction time which is probably one of the most cited benefits of gaming. Reaction time is a skill probably the most important skill, for a gamer to have. It is a trademark ability of professional players who need instantaneous reaction time in order to properly react to enemy movements and strategy. According to governments documents from the NCBI, “training your action time by playing video games and high-speed fps (first-person shooter) games causes reaction speeds to absolutely skyrocket” (increase significantly). Some series definitely increase reaction time or any fps game like counter-strike, and call of duty.
Lastly, Video games always helped when studying languages, and now there is a study which confirms it. In this study (performed by National Taiwan Normal University) twenty-two college students were asked to play an English game called Bone. One group could take notes while playing, but the other could not. After playing, both groups took a vocabulary test. The results showed that both groups learned some new words after playing the game, but there was no considerable difference between the two groups gaming performances. The study has led us to the conclusion that video games can increase college students’ English listening, reading and vocabulary skills. Recommended games for studying languages are adventures and multiple choice games, such as Life Is Strange.
All in all we could see the positive effects of gaming through many research including the oxford university which oriented the treating dyslexia with active games, as well the governments documents of the NCBI which said that action games helps us improve our action speeds and last, but not least the study of National Taiwan Normal University which highlighted the fact, that video games helps us developing foreign languages.
