The harms of smoking
Cigarettes
are harmful to humans in health, social life and relationships. Unfortunately,
too many people smoke, which is almost as addictive as drugs or alcoholic
beverages. It can also cause harm to other people and our environment with the
pollution. In this essay we will prove why the use of cigarettes should be restricted
or moderated.
First
of all, the smoker’s health can suffer from it. Breathing the smoke straight
into one’s body can harm their internal organs, and as the time passes, cancer
can form in the mouth, throat, lungs, and other places inside or outside the
body. Breathing difficulties may occur, and after a few years suffering with
chemotherapy, one may still die despite the best efforts of the doctors. As thousands
of people die from the use of cigarettes every year, it is unwise to even try
it less and addiction can form.
Secondly,
it affects one’s social life, too. People can spend their entire paychecks on
cigarettes in place of a healthy habit, like monthly tickets to the local gym.
Also, one can spend hours collectively smoking instead of working or studying. It
can create issues as days are shortened while this activity becomes priority
over anything else. In fact, this habit not only turns one’s timetable
upside-down, but disturbs others in one’s vicinity. Unfortunately, it is not
rare to find smoke coming out from places where smoking is prohibited. Alas,
one cannot know for sure whether there is a person nearby suffering from
respiratory disorders. It can cause complications, and in the worst case, they
may even have to go to the hospital.
Finally,
the topic of cigarettes can cause rifts in relationships and even ruin them.
Yellow teeth and stinking breath may generate frustration - even disgust -
between couples, but it is not the only reason for disputes. Disagreements over
the smoking habits of one’s lover and the money they lose to packs of
cigarettes may end in a fight. Therefore, after a long-term argument, the
romantic connection between them may even end in tears. Another problem is that
children - in families where they smoke daily - inhale second-hand smoke. Smoke
can spread throughout the house despite opening the windows, and its particles
might also built up on surfaces and clothes. Inhaling these may cause respiratory
infections, asthma, and even cot death to children.
In
conclusion, smoking cigarettes is harmful to your health, can ruin one’s life
if they are not careful, and may cause problems to others in the smoker’s
vicinity. A possible solution to these might be stronger restrictions or
moderations, but unfortunately, it cannot be under constant scrutiny.
