Disadvantages of the Internet

Nowadays, technology has been developing a faster rate than ever which means that between human beings, especially teenagers, real verbal communication declines. Internet highly influences a person’s everyday life in a harmful way; for example, the relationships are getting meaningless due to chat conversations on smartphones; therefore, a great number of people become anti-social and lonely. In addition, privacy has loosened along the appearance of web social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Firstly, making friends on the Internet has become easy because everyone can share their thoughts in the same way even a shy person too who would normally feel uncomfortable during a real conversation. That is the reason why people express themselves more reserved when they meet face to face. Instead of listening to your relatives’ and friends’ problems or happiness you keep paying attention to the unimportant happenings that take place on the Internet. People live their whole life in an unrealistic digital world and it results in not noticing the value of a friendship which provides real love and happiness. They spend their free time in front of the computer chatting with people whom they never saw before or they play games in an imaginary world with made-up characters. Because of these habits, they do not know what is happening in the real world. As the time passes they lose the connection with everyone; they will not be interested in anything or anybody and they become a lone wolf. If some miracle happens and they start to realize how empty and false their life is they still have a chance to rebuild their social life and find new friends. Unfortunately, there is another disadvantage of the Internet. That moment you register for any kind of social platform you already lost your privacy. Anyone can check who you are, what kind of things you are interested in; when you were born, and it means that all your personal data will be available for everyone. If you upload pictures about yourself they can steal them, create a new profile with your personality and write bad or weird things to your friends. There are some options how you can avoid these situations. For example, you can choose who can make contact with you or who can see your pictures. Furthermore, one can set selected information to be seen on their profile.
To sum up, being present on social platforms sometimes does more harm than good. Friendships are getting superficial so fewer people have real soulmates, and the lack of privacy is the most serious consequence of the widely used Internet.
